Since LJ is down, I guess I'll scribble over here. I suppose that cross-posting backup will be in order once LJ comes back up. *shrug* Comments are open - even if you don't have a Dreamwidth account, you can comment. No need to sign in, since LJ isn't working. Just remember to stick your username on comments, of course.

I'm going to toss the slow-moving draft of [personal profile] wiggiemomsi's fic out the window today and start fresh. I think I've been trying to force too much on a draft that's just NOT working for me, and it's causing me to get even more stuck. I'll start new, and hopefully get this puppy moving.

I suppose stopping and starting fresh on a draft is one of the biggest lessons I still need to learn. I get myself so flustered trying to force a piece into being - I just need to accept that sometimes, it's not going to happen. Images and scenes can burst into being, but fizzle out.

Not that I won't save it in the draft folder, of course. I've managed to incorporate a couple scribblings into future pieces. It's not like it'll hurt things by sitting in the folder. That is one of the beautiful things about computers and organizing your files - you can keep these drafts to use for later ideas.

The Honda dealership just called - apparently the leather shift knob I ordered is in. I thought they'd put it on already, actually... and I kind of like the golf-ball waffle one that's on the car. It fits very comfortably in my hand. So I'll take a look and see what I think when we drive over there.

Driving to Newport is always a good thing. I think we'll take the other direction today, though & not do the tolls over the bridge. It's a strikingly beautiful drive that way. But the other way isn't bad, either.

I suppose I'll take advantage of LJ being down and maybe be productive today. :)

The official plug... :)

I will be writing again for the Support Stacie Auction, being held April 3-6, 2009. (link above). I've pledged for one 5,000 word fic (bids will start at $10) in one of the three fandoms: Doctor Who, Torchwood, or X-Files. Prompts, rating, pairings, etc. are up to the winning bidder's choice. The only restrictions I've asked for are no requests for babyfic, wedding fic, or songfic, and if asking for a Doctor Who fic, please limit scope to sometime in the New Series, as my Classic Who isn't yet up to snuff for writing.

AND...

AND... ;)

my special offer for the auction is that if bids go above $100 for my fic, anyone bidding $100 or over will also get a fic of at least 1,000 words according to their requests as well, to be finished after the winning bidder's fic. (And knowing me... any of that fic is going to go at least 3,000 words, honestly).

So bid! Not just on me, though - bid on everyone! :)

In addition to my regular holiday ficathons, I'm going to put my fic writing to good use this year.

I've signed up for the Holiday Support Stacie Auction. Minimum word count: 2500. Minimum bid: $5.

This is for a very good cause - a fellow fan who needs money for cancer treatment. So please, if you are willing to write (or willing to bid!), please do.

But sure, what the hell... I'll play the meme.

Give me premises for three fics you think I will never, ever, ever write. In return, I will attempt to write a drabble or a snippet of one of them.

Fandoms: Doctor Who; X-Files

Mind you, I probably will want to try going beyond a drabble, since I have an aversion to drabbles in general. :)

(looks worried)

They're doing some pipe work in our neighborhood, so our water's shut off. No laundry for me at the moment.

So instead, I'm doing the writing part of my day. For warm ups...

1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it’s over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

Fandom: Doctor Who (obviously)

I don't freeverse enough.  This felt pretty good.  Whether or not they make sense?  I dunno.  They do to me because I get what I was seeing/feeling.  I also haven't done drabbles before.  Maybe I should entertain the idea more often.  Does this break my concept of avoiding songfic, though?

Eh, if it does... I'll consider myself shamed and just go with it.

The weird thing is that I notice how I listen to music... I rarely listen to words (got stuck and did a double-take on one song... lyric stuck out, and I literally stopped writing and just laughed.  It broke the mood.   But I listen to the music, not the words, and work off THAT emotion, which is probably why some of these go a bit random from what the song is about.  And why #10 worked so damn well (it's such an incredibly sad piece of music to begin with).

#10 may be something I revisit, BTW.  A couple others have potential, too.  But #10 really just sticks out to me.

Like... a lot.

Nothing here that's above a PG-13, for those who care about such ratings.  Other than a quick spellcheck, these are otherwise untouched, since I presume that's the intention of the meme.
