I'm just curious to know what types of ballots people use when they vote - U.S. or otherwise.

For the definitions of the options I'm using below, go here: http://www.infoplease.com/spot/campaign2000ballot.html

[Poll #1266147]

The polling place where I vote in Rhode Island uses paper ballots - we're given a printed piece of cardstock that has all of the options, along with the point and the tail of an arrow next to each name. To vote for a person, we draw a line to complete the arrow with a provided black marker.

Minnesota's on the same system with the paper and the arrows. I've never dealt with any other system, but as an election judge, they were pretty easy to deal with.

I can't actually remember what we used here for the primaries so I answered for my parents' county instead. We had a choice between opscan ballots or an electronic system of some sort. I've always gone with the opscan, so I'm not sure exactly how the electronic one works.

I have no idea what Salem's method is. In Pennsylvania I remember the big noisy mechanical lever machines.

In my neck of the woods, we use the same system you have - cardstock with black marker connect-the-arrows. Not all of us Floridians wrestle with hanging chads. ;)

Down here in the "big metropolis," we have the optical scan (punch cards were used up until about 2 years ago). I know that in the township I grew up in, they still use the mechanical lever machines.

We use the mechanical lever machine in NY, whether it's voting for the President or the Board of Ed or approving the new school budget. We even used the same machines in HS when voting for the Student Council!

They're kind of confusing too. I'm always worried I'm going to hit the lever for the name below rather than above and vote for the wrong person!

we used to use the Mechanical lever type but last election we got a similar machine but it was more electronic. It looked pretty mucht he same but instead of switching the lever, we hit the area next to the candidate's name which made a green X (I believe) light up next to the name. After we were done with our choices, we hit a big red button I believe which registered the votes (as opposed to the big giant lever that used to do it).

Haven't voted for years so we might have gone electronic and i missed it, but from what I can recall of the last time I voted it was a paper ballot with a card to mark and pop in a box. That was for Essex, Milton Keynes where i live now is newer and may be different but I stopped voting a wile ago on the bases that all partys as as bad as each other.

I voted "paper ballots" because that's what we had where I used to live. I haven't voted in Sonoma County yet, so I don't know what sort of ballot we'll have, but I'm guessing it will be the same. I don't think our ballots (at the old place) connected arrows - ours were more like a scantron, where I filled in a bubble.

Back in my hometown, last time I was there for an election, it was punchcards. In the current hometown - at least in the district I used to vote in; it's probably the same here - it's the scantrons.

Oregon's is mail-in and I think we fill in bubbles with pencils. I'm not sure what that falls under up there.
